Trying to go vegan but don’t know what to eat or which brands to choose? This post will give you ideas on how to make vegan food swaps and which brands to choose.
One of the biggest struggles that I faced when going vegan was figuring out which items to swap out, along with which brands to choose. I would go into Whole Foods and just become so overwhelmed. What do I pick? What if it’s gross? The items I’ve listed here are ones that I use all the time. Now…remember that homemade is best (like for veggie burgers and hummus) because you can control the ingredients. However, when you need staple items to have on hand, these are my go to’s. You will also notice that I didn’t include cheese. That’s because I haven’t found a vegan substitute that I really like. I prefer to make my own cashew cheese (see recipe here). Be sure to keep this list handy. All of these items can be found at Whole Foods, and most can also be found at Publix and Target.
For the lentils and tofu listed below, any brand will do.
