I will share what I’ve learned along the way about looking & feeling healthy and vibrant over the age of 50, going plant based, transitioning to products that are organic, sustainable and as toxin free as possible, and how you can do it as well.
I’ve always loved taking care of the home, cooking from scratch, crafting and creating. I thought cooking the quintessential casserole was healthy, and was what you were supposed to make…until I learned differently. When I first started this lifestyle about 6 years ago, I didn’t know how to begin. I decided to stop eating meat for health reasons because I had read about how bad it was for you, the animal and the planet. Then I became aware of how many toxins and pesticides were in everything that we ate to what we put on our skins. I wanted to make a change but I had no idea how. I was stressed from information overload. What do I eat now…just salads? Where do I buy non-toxic makeup? How do I switch all of my chemically laden products to ones that were safe? I had jumped down a rabbit hole and there was no escaping or going back to the way things were. I know that sounds so dramatic but it was true. So, from that point forward, I’ve just been researching and figuring out my way on this journey.
Everything that I had been taught to eat, cook and use was just such propaganda. What do you mean that normal fruits and vegetables are sprayed with round up? Say what…dairy causes mucus and inflammation? Are you kidding that my “pasture raised” meat isn’t really grazing happily and living their best life on a farm? Cereal, cream of condensed soups and every other shelf stable food has GMO’s? What are GMO’s? Things I used to clean my home and my favorite makeup is laced with nasty toxins? All of these things cause cancer? My mind was exploding and I didn’t understand how this could be, and how most people are not even aware.
Basically my family and friends thought I was crazy. “Honey…you don’t need a water filtration system.” “Do we really need to pay 3x as much for organic instead of conventional?” “Everything is fine in moderation.” “My relative lived to be 90 years old and ate meat and dairy.” “That’s really weird that you make your own cleaning products.”
So I am here to help as you begin or continue on your journey. Think of me as your trial and error guinea pig…been there, done that, tried this and it worked, tried that and it didn’t, made this and everyone loved it, cooked that and it was gross…This is a lifestyle not a race. There is no perfection, only everyday progress. Health is definitely the new wealth, especially as you age. Am I the ultimate guru? Heck NO! I’ve been eating the SAD (Standard American Diet) for 45+ years and have used bucket loads of toxins on my skin and in my home. When you know better…do better and that’s what I aim for daily. This lifestyle has definitely made me look & feel more healthy and vibrant. Plus, I get to load up on whole fresh foods and eat until I’m full, without counting calories. That’s a big win in my book! I live in Orlando, Florida with my husband and 2 Boston Terriers. I have one daughter who graduated from Florida State University…go Noles and relocated to Chicago. I’m now a retired middle school teacher. So welcome and I can’t wait to connect!
